Memorial service for Jerry Koller Rea, age 90, of New Smyrna Beach, who passed away after a short illness on June 21, 2010 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Edgewater, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Coronado Community United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, with The Reverend Esther Robinson, officiating.

PORT ORANGE -- A 5-acre brush fire Tuesday afternoon that forced authorities to close one northbound lane of Interstate 95 just north of New Smyrna Beach was extinguished within an hour by Port Orange Fire Rescue.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Six years ago today, Joe Visconti lost his mother-in-law, Jacqueline Mallory, to cancer. The date was etched in his memory as he donated a $500 check to the Southeast Volusia American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, on behalf of his employer, United Launch Alliance, the nation's rocket giant.

This manatee was rescued Wednesday n the waters of the Canaveral National Seashore suffering from an apparent injury resulting from contact with a boat, SeaWorld officials said.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An endangered female manatee was rescued Wednesday after she was observed floarting near bthe surface and unable to submerge, officials with SeaWorld Orlando's Animal Rescue Team said.
The animal was rescued from the waters of the National Canaveral Seashore just south of New Smyrna Beach.

ORLANDO -- The Orange – Osceola State Attorney’s in Orlando has released an estimated 5,000 pages of documents related to accused kiddie killer Casey Anthony.
She’s the 24-year-old woman accused of murdering her daughter two years ago while she went out an partied the night away. Most of the documents released Friday are letters and cards sent to Anthony since being incarcerated in the Orange County Jail.
