Volusia Sheriff: Deltona woman says she was raped in her bed by an intruder

DELTONA -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report that a man forced his way into a Deltona home early Friday morning and sexually
assaulted a 41-year-old woman, sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.

Two children under the age of 10 also were in the home, but slept through the attack, Haught said.

The victim told investigators that she didn't know who the suspect was. No weapon was used and the victim was not injured other than being sexually battered, the spokesman said.

I find the prospect of an Obama Presidency backed up with a large Democratic majority in congress as a frightening prospect. The reasons can be summarized by saying Obama and the Democratic leadership appear to prefer the economic ideas of Karl Marx over those of Adam Smith and Milton Friedman. They look to government actions and programs to solve all of our problems.

Furthermore, I fear that he will remove our influence in the Middle East and destroy all credibility America has in foreign affairs. He appears to favor a weaker America. That is why all of America ’s enemies favor Obama.

Daytona's Main Street Bridge reopens

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach reopened to traffic at 3:30 p.m. today following repairs to a faulty limit switch, Volusia County spokeswoman Pat Kuehn reported this afternoon.

The limit switch allows the bridge to open and close for boat traffic, she said.

The bridge had been closed since Friday evening when it became inoperable.

Daytona State College ensemble to perform at NSB Regional Library

Three dogs perish in Edgewater garage fire

EDGEWATER -- Three dogs perished when a family's garage at 1581 Boyce Circle caught fire Oct. 19, Edgewater Fire DEepartment officials reported.

Upon arrival that Sunday night , the crew of Engine 57 found a detached garage, 200 feet from the main residence, fully engulfed in flames, said Lt. Jill Danigel, also the department's fire marshal.

The fire was quickly extinguished and no damage occurred to the home.

Longtime Oak Hill freelance reporter Linda Walton dies

OAK HILL -- Linda Walton, longtime journalist who worked as a freelance journalist covering the city of Oak Hill for many years died at her home Saturday after suffering heart failure. She was 66.

Walton, an admitted heavy smoker, was a fixture at Oak Hill city meetings as a freelance reporter for the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Spotted in the overflow crowd of nearly 300 on a steamy Friday afternoon was New Smyrna Beach City Manager John Hagood. Standing with the VIPs in the back room was New Smyrna Beach City Commissioner Lynne Plaskett.

Among the contingent in the security detail was New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Eugene Griffith.
