Atlantic Center for the Arts programs over the next several weeks

Here are some of the programs available at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, ongoing through Nov. 13:

Exhibition: Works by Master Artists Svetlana Chmokova, Paul Pope, and Craig Thompson Opening reception: 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 15.

This exhibit features the work of Master Artists-in-Residence for ACA's themed Graphic Novel/Sequential Art Residency (Oct. 11-31): Svetlana Chmokova, Paul Pope, and Craig Thompson.

Historian to discuss pinhole photography at DeBary Hall on Saturday

DEBARY -- Photographic historian Walter Johnson will discuss pinhole photography at 2 p.m. Saturday, at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 210 Sunrise Blvd.

His talk, “Pictures in a box: The art of pinhole photography,” will explore the history of the pinhole technique, which dates from the fourth century B.C. and is still used today. Johnson, a professor
emeritus at Ohio State University, will display contemporary and historic cameras and images.

Photographer to speak at Oak Hill Library on Thursday

OAK HILL -- Fine arts photographer Harding Ballough will discuss and illustrate his approach to photography. His presentation will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Oak Hill Public Library.

For decades, the Daytona Beach native has produced a diverse range of photography, much of which has been published, displayed in exhibitions and galleries, and sold privately.

NSB's weekend Art Fiesta stronger on Sunday with better weather

Unique works of art were on display during the weekend Art Fiesta at Old Fort Park on Sams Avenue in New Smyrna Beach by artists like Burlington, Vt. artist Peter Robinson-Smith and his wire-screen works as shown in the photos above. Below left, crowds were sparse Saturday, but picked up consierably Sunday with better weather.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Few patrons of the arts braved the rain and cold of Saturday to check out the weekend Art Fiesta at Old Fort Park on Sams Avenue. But on Sunday, temperatures warmed up to the low 50s and the skies were sunny for those who wanted to get away from Bike Week and enjoy the arts.

In all, there were 200 booths for the 48th annual fiesta.

Hope Barton featured in March at NSB's Arts on Douglas

NEW SMYRNAS BEACH -- The Arts on Douglas Fine Art and Collectibles, the downtown New Smyrna Beach art gallery, will showcase the acrylic paintings and etchings of St. Augustine artist, Hope Barton. Each month one of the 59 artists represented by Arts on Douglas is featured in a solo exhibition.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Jean Banas's prolific career has spanned over 20 years. Her most recent abstract expressionist work, "The Beat Goes On," is now on display at Arts on Douglas through Saturday.

Here is how Banas describes her work:  "My paintings focus on the expressive qualities of composition using line, shape and form in a dialogue with each other, as actors do on a stage. My works are alive with exhuberance and vitality, and have a sense of mystery that cannot be fully understood or explained."

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The 34th annual IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts, presented by Atlantic Center for the Arts, will be held Saturday and Sunday in picturesque Riverside Park along the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway.

It will be an outstanding weekend featuring more than 200 talented artists, a delicious festival menu in the food court, children's art projects, and free top-notch entertainment all day.

Offering more than $100,000 in prize money and Patron's Choice Awards, the juried festival attracts some of the most talented artists in the country.
