Remembering Whitney Houston: 'Certain self destructiveness to those gifted with creativity'

The world is abuzz with speculation and assumptions as to the cause of death of Whitney Houston, found dead in a room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the age of 48, on the eve of the Grammy Awards. What I can say with certainty is that artists have it hard; that there is often a certain self destructiveness to those gifted with creativity is hardly a secret.

 

Fix our nation's interstates and add jobs in the process

EDGEWATER -- I saw a recent report from ABC News' Diane Sawyer that I found troubling: Our 4 million miles of roads ranks us 20th in the world behind places like Malaysia due to deterioration and poor maintenance. How sad is that?

I was a bit taken aback that someone even had done a ranking of road conditions in the countries of the world, but was not terribly surprised to hear this country wasn’t doing very well. Most states I have been in have many poor roads causing accidents due to pot holes, narrow shoulders, fraying asphalt and other factors.

Dealing with the talking back teenager

In the past, I relegated my blog to discussing moral issues regarding the impact of silence. Yet, to my shame, I left my own passion and obligation in the balance. That would probably explain why my blogs have been so sporadic with little focus. Thus, I have decided to switch my focus to discussing teens and issues surrounding them.

Blessings to cats and other pets on this Thanksgiving holiday

During this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I want to take the time to let you know what i am thankful for. First and foremost, I'm thankful for my husband who puts up with my cattitude and kitty comings and goings at all hours, any day, any time.

Edgewater Fall Festival a fun time for kids

Edgewater had a fall festival on Saturday evening, Oct. 29, with a cool breeze and mostly starry skies making it a perfect atmosphere for wearing a costume or long sleeves. This is the second Halloween event in two years and it was held by New Smyrna Beach High School, the Edgewater Police Department and Southeast Volusia YMCA among other local sponsors.
