DELTONA The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help this morning in locating a 80-year-old man who has Alzheimer's.

Baltazar Maldonado left his home in Deltona Wednesday afternoon without his cell phone.

"He was last seen at his home on Blackstone Avenue wearing a blue plaid shirt and black pants," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught told Headline Surfer.

ORANGE CITY -- A taxi driver was held up at gunpoint early this morning and ordered to drive a man and woman to Orange city before he escaped at the intersection of Volusia and Graves avenues, A Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

The 2002 Dodge Caravan was later recovered abandoned in Sanford and the duo remain at large.

DELTONA -- A 27-year-old Deltona mother who was court-ordered to relinquish parental rights to her three small children -- ages 8, 6 and 4 months -- and hand them over to DCF, instead has fled and Volusia County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help in finding her and her kids, an agency official said this afternoon.

Murder locale in Deltona / Headline SurferDELTONA -- An apparent drug deal in Deltona went horribly wrong late Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old man who was dragged down the street by a fleeing motorist, an official with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim was identified as Tristan De Joy, who witnesses reported walking late Sunday afternoon to the end of Sonnet Court, the same Deltona road where he lives. Next, a pickup truck was spotted driving to the end of the street, where De Joy was.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for the Volusia County cities of New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, Orange City, Lake Helen and Deltona until 9 p.m.

The advisory was issued at 6:58 p.m. from the National Weather Service in Melboune, following a fast-moving thunderstorm.

DELTONA -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a Deltona man who went missing under suspicious circumstances April 2 and hasn't been seen since.

James Sheaffer, 36, who works for a limousine service, was last seen at the business getting into an unknown man's vehicle, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught told Headline Surfer this afternoon.

"The men then drove away in a black passenger car, leaving Sheaffer's vehicle behind," the sheriff's spokesman said. "He did not return to work for his next assignment and his live-in girlfriend and family members haven't heard from him.

DELAND -- Sheriff's deputies apprehended a sixth and final suspect wanted in connection with a Feb. 25 armed home invasion outside the DeLand city limits.

"Volusia County Sheriff's deputies located 19-year-old Scott Barkley at his Deltona home (Tuesday) morning and arrested him without incident," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.

Two Deltona High students arrested on charges of bringing loaded handgun to school

DELTONA -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrested two Deltona High School students late Thursday afternoon after a school administrator found a loaded gun in one of the student's backpack. A campus advisor was the first to spot the suspicious activity, at first thinking that he might have witnessed a drug transaction.

Because of his suspicious behavior, 16-year-old Erick Graham was escorted to the dean's office, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. "But instead of drugs, a search of Graham's backpack turned up a loaded .25-caliber handgun tucked in a sock. The gun had one bullet in the magazine."

The Sheriff's Office's school resource deputy assigned to the school was called in to investigate, Davidson said.

"Upon questioning by the deputy, Graham initially denied knowing anything about the gun or how it ended up in his backpack," Davidson said.

DELAND -- Sheriff's investigators have identified Tuesday night's shotgun slaying victim as 25-year-old Antwan Harris of Deltona.

As reported first by Headline Surfer,  investigators are dealing with Volusia County's first reported murder of 2013, where the victim was dropped off late Tuesday at Florida Hospital Hospital-DeLand where he died less than an 40 minutes later, an agency spokesman said.
