Pelican Bay man accused of being a peeping Tom bonds out of jail

Earnest Warren was charged Tuesday with stalking and prowling outside a 14-year-old girl's bedroom window in Pelican Bay.

DAYTONA BEACH -- A man accused of stalking a 14-year-old girl and loitering around her bedroom window in the Pelican Bay subdivision has bonded out of the Volusia County Jail.

DELTONA -- From the onset, there was much about Wednesday’s report of an unknown intruder beating a 56-year-old Deltona man to death that didn’t make sense, Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Mayor Blaine O'Neal died suddenly Friday of an apparent heart attack, city officials said.  He was 43.

O'Neal was working in his chiropractic office Friday morning when he collapsed and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he died at 8:30 a.m.

County to collect household hazardous waste April 23-24

DELAND -- Volusia County’s Solid Waste Division is hosting a household hazardous waste collection event for materials such as paint, used oils, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, car batteries and cleaning chemicals. These materials could contaminate ground water or pose a threat to the owner if kept too long.

An 8-year-old girl is being cared for at Halifax MerdicalCenter with what are being described as non-life threatening injuries after falling from a first-floor hotel balcony Tuesday night on the beachside, Daytona Beach Fire Department officials said.

Volusia County census rate hits 22%; deadline extended to April 19

DELAND -- Volusia County’s mail participation rate hit 22 percent Thursday, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, which is updating data daily at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map/.

The nation’s rate is 29 percent, and Florida’s is 20 percent, said Pat Kuehn, a Volusia County spokeswoman.
