Volusia County Council schedules economic development workshop Feb. 25

DELAND -- The Volusia County Council will have a workshop at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, to consider alternatives to the economic development system in the county. The workshop will be in the County Council chambers of theThomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave.

Votran Speed Weeks service interruptions announced

DAYTONA BEACH -- Speed Weeks will bring heavy traffic to Volusia County in February and Votran riders should expect numerous delays, interruptions and route deviations.

Schedule delays will begin Thursday, Feb. 11 and continue through the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Detours are subject to change without notice and buses will be rerouted to secondary roads when traffic becomes congested.

Florida Highway Patrol: Biker, 19, killed in head-on collision near Barberville

BARBERVILLE -- A young motorcyclist killed Tuesday after hitting a Jeep Cherokee head-on after passing another vehicle on State Road 15 near Barberville, has been identified as 18-year-old James M. Haskins of DeLeon Springs, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Volusia County: Republican ‘census’ form should not be confused with U.S. Census Bureau questionnaire

DELAND -- A Republican census form should not be confused with the U.S. Census Bureau questionnaire, Volusia County officials caution local residents.

The Republic National Committee has mailed “2010 Congressional District Census” forms to members of the Republican Party. The four-page form asks 37 questions about domestic issues and national
defense.

Some Volusia County residents have reported that they believed these were the official U.S. Census Bureau questionnaires.

Sheriff's Office makes arrest in double murder in Ormond-by-the-Sea

ORMOND BEACH -- By his own admission, convicted felon Lonnie Redner was inside the grisly crime scene back in November where two men were brutally murdered at a home in Ormond-by-the-Sea, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said Thursday.
