County of Volusia to meet with Teamsters local 385

DELAND -- Staff from the Volusia County Personnel Division will meet with representatives of the Teamsters Local 385 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday, to discuss contract negotiations for Sheriff's deputies.

The meeting will be in the fourth-floor conference room of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.

Ormond Beach man struck and killed Sunday night after stepping onto U.S. 1 near Iron Horse Saloon

ORMOND BEACH - A 53-year-old Ormond Beach man walking from the Iron Horse Saloon parking lot was struck and killed Sunday night after walking in front of an oncoming pick-up truck he apparently did not see as he stepped onto U.S. 1, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Bruce Bolduc was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:08 p.m. accident. The driver, William Groat, 58, of Grand Blanc, Mich., who was driving in the outside lane, was not charged.

Wings on wind event to take flight Saturday at Marine Science Center

Daytona Beach cops: Girl, 16, stabbed to death at bandshell; two others stabbed as well

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death last night at the Daytona
Beach Bandshell and two other teens suffered non-life threatening stab wounds last
night with no arrests imminent, Daytona Beach police reported on their Web site.

Robin Munsch was reported deceased when police arrived on scene shortly after
midnight. Desiree Jures, 22, was being treated at Halifax Medical center for at
least two stab wounds and Jordan Hess, 18, was admitted as well, stabbed in the
back.

South Daytona installs energy monitoring system

SOUTH DAYTONA — Being designated a “Green Government” hasn’t slowed South Daytona’s “Green Team” from exploring additional ways to enhance its commitment to maintaining an environmentally sustainable community.

The community of 13,000 residents, designated as a Green Local Government Gold Level by the Florida Green Building Coalition, recently installed an energy monitoring system in City Hall.

Pet Vet Cruiser announces November appointments for free pet shots

DELAND -- The Pet Vet Cruiser is a state-of-the-art mobile clinic that offersfree and low-cost spay and neuter services for pets in the
unincorporated areas of Volusia County. The qualifications for service are based on income and have a sliding-fee scale, according to Becky
Wilson, Volusia County Animal Control Services director.

County Council members to attend Deltona workshop Monday

DELTONA -- Volusia County Council members are planning to attend a Deltona City Commission workshop at 4:30 p.m. Monday, in the second-floor conference room of Deltona City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd.

Topics of discussion will include State Road 415, the upcoming legislative session, Deltona’s Saturday morning public market, and the Deltona Parks and Recreation advisory board.

Two Ormond men get life sentences for murder of fellow Ormond man

DELAND -- Two men were each sentenced tonight to life in prsion for the beating and drowning of a 32-year-old Ormond-by-the-Sea resident last Dec. 13.

"After deliberating for a little over an hour earlier this evening, the jury recommended that both Barry Donel Gallagher and David Joseph Marrow, be sentenced to life in prison for the murder of David Sanders," said Christopher Kelly, spokesman for State Attorney R.J. LaRiza. "Circuit Judge James R. Clayton proceeded to sentence both to life in prison without the possibility of parole."

Longtime Votran drivers earn top safety awards from National Safety Council

DELAND -- Votran driver Bernard Huggins has received the National Safety Council Southeast Regional Best Safe Driver of the Year.

“This is the highest individual award earned by anyone in Votran's history,” said Ken Fischer, Votran general manager. “Votran has
multiple individuals with state awards, and in 1993, Votran won the national American Public Transit Association system award. We are so proud of our mobility team and these drivers.”
