Tornado warning issued for Volusia County; NSB area gets heavy rain

NSBNEWS.net video by Sera Frederick. A tornado warning was issued for Volusia County until 5:30 p.m., which passed without incident. The greater New Smyrna Beach area sustained a brief thunderstorm, but no major problems as a result. The video shows traffic on North Dixie Freeway at 5:25 p.m. during the height of the rainstorm.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a tornado warning just after 5 p.m. for Volusia County with a report of a tornado approaching Spruce Creek and Interstate 95 and headed in the direction of Wilbur by the Sea and Ponce Inlet at 5:15 p.m. near Ponce Inlet and Interstate 95, Other areas included in the warning were Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and unincorporated Bethune Beach.

Deputies investigating 'lost dog' story by possible child snatcher in DeLand

DELAND -- Volusia County Sheriff's deputies are looking into a suspicious incident in which a 13-year-old girl who was outside of her home near DeLand Wednesday afternoon was spooked when a man asked her to get into her truck to help him look for a lost puppy.

NSB Uilities Commission now accepts credit and debit card payments

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Utilities Commission now accepts Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards for payment at the main office building, 200 Canal St., or online via E-Access customer account portal.

The E-Access link is available on the right hand side of the UCC page. In addition to paying your bill online, E-Access allows you to view past statements, order electronic delivery of bills, and make service requests. Edgewater teen stars in Hollywood music video

Tia McDonald is not a rich girl in real life, but she has had some rich experiences with the likes of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Recently, the 17-year-old junior at New Smyrna Beach High School starred in a Hollywood video for the boy band Down with Webster and its debut record, "Rich Girl$."

Florida Rabbits and Hares Rabbits are jumping mammals with relatively large hind legs, long ears, and short tails. Like many rodents, rabbits have a pair of long, chisel-like upper incisors. They also have a second pair of incisors behind the first set.

Rabbits eat food plants including elms, grapes, hawthorns, blue phlox, and ash. There are three different types of rabbits in Florida: 1. The black tailed jackrabbit;  2. The eastern cottontail;  3. The marsh rabbit.

U.C. to work with customers on heating bills: That's great

Anyone who has been to our quaint home on North Dixie Freeway can attest how cold it can get inside when the temperature outside is cold. I've been battling bronchitis for two weeks and had no choice, but to put on the heat. That's why Sera and I were pleased to learn the Utilities Commission is offering to work with customers on what will likely be a higher bill in the next billing cycle.

8-year-old Florida Shores girl on scooter critically injured after being hit by a car

EDGEWATER -- An 8-year-old girl who accidentally ran her scooter into the path of a car from her Florida Shores home Sunday afternoon was fighting for her life at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach after being flown there by the Sheriff's Air 1 helicopter, Edgewater authorities said.
