Judge holds off decision on proposed sale of the Daytona Beach News-Journal

ORLANDO -- The federal judge overseeing the possible sale of the Daytona Beach News-Journal held off Friday on a deal for the newsspaper to be sold for $20 million because he wants at least two independent appraisals done, according to a story published in today's News-Journal.

Finally, it's warming up so get out and enjoy the sunshine

I was excited when I saw the e-mail alert from the National Weather Service this morning that the wind-chill advisory had expired. And what a beautiful day it has become as I filed this blog just after 2 p.m. on a sunny Saturday afternoon here in our beloved New Smyrna Beach. Sera and I got out for a little while with a trip to Wal-Mart, the bank and and back home.

This has been the absolute worst winter I can remember in my 15 years here from New York and New England, where, of course, winter is much, much worse. It felt good to wear shorts again outside today.

Sunny skies, boats and Girl Scout cookies galore

Cloudy morning skies, as shown in the photo on the North Causeway with the bridge up for a passing boat, gave way to midday sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures in the upper 50s, which allowed Troop 995 Girl Scouts Shinirah Simon, 9, of New Smyrna Beach, and Ashley Clark, 10, of Edgewater, to sell their organization's spcial brand of cookies to a packed crowd across from Wal-Mart in the NSB Regional Shopping Center on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series once again provided fans ith a thrilling finish as the first 10 trucks to take the checkered flag in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 did so within .500 seconds of each other.

Leading the pack was the No. 17 Toyota of Timothy Peters, who captured his first win at historic Daytona International Speedway and the second NASCAR Truck Series win of his career.
