DELTONA -- Volusia County Sheriff's investigators are working to unravel a home invasion Tuesday in Deltona in which a 28-year-old woman was reportedly
abducted at gunpoint, before being released unharmed, agency spokesman Gary Davidson reported.
He said deputies are interviewing her, piecing together Tuesday's events and searching for the suspects.
Naturally, conservative Republicans are disappointed that former Gov. Jeb Bush decided not to run for the U.S. Senate seat in 2010 with the announced retirement of Mel Martinez. Jeb Bush is considered by many conservatives as being the finest candidate for any political office. He would have been a shoo in to become senator -- so much so that he was not expected to have any challengers from inside the party.
However it is quite understandable with all the mud and propaganda that has been thrown at his presidential brother that he decided to keep his powder dry and make his move later on.
I have lived my life as an economic conservative, believing in free markets, small government and personal freedom from the time I was a teenager. I'm not about to change now.
Some noted conservatives like ABC's 20/20 anchor John Stossel started out as liberals before seeing the light. My conservatism was the result of my parents, staunch conservatives who believed in these things and passed their views on to my brother and myself.
They could pass on their beliefs but they could not pass on the knowledge, experience and observations that laid behind them. Therefore, when I ran into committed liberals I did not have the knowledge to refute many of their arguments and assertions. Some nettlesome questions that arose were: Who is going to protect the worker from starvation wages? Who is going to prevent industry from exploiting child labor? How will children be educated without public schools. Do the rich get richer while the poor get poorer? Without government regulation what keeps business from taking advantage of the public? What keeps businesses from forming monopolies?

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A verbal sparring match between New Smyrna Beach City Attorney Frank Gummey and another attorney during a New Smyrna Beach City Commission over a technical issue nearly led to Gummey's ouster, which would have forced the city to buy out his contract for a whopping $400,000.
DAYTONA BEACH -- In late August, The Volusia County Sheriff's Office launched a criminal investigation about allegations that at least three male employees with the Pine Girls Delinquency Commitment program at Stewart-Marchman Center had sexual relations with at least four girls there.
