DELTONA, Fla. -- There are several constants for the citizens of Volusia County's largest city under the law enforcement leadership of Mike Chitwood: Violent crime in Deltona has continued unabated since the sheriff took office at the beginning of 2017, the latest violent incident occurring early this morning under the cover of darkness with the shooting into a motor vehicle that injured the 35-year-old driver.
